Why does the grand jury system exist? |
how do twelve untrained people, each with personal flaws and traits, possibly bias, deciding some of the most important cases? isn't it take long, hard study to become an attorney? and even longer to become judge? so why do we trust 12 regular-joe to decide one's fate? why can't we leave it to the judge? shouldn't it be better to leave it to the pros? A grand jury decides whether or not there is enough evidence to go to trial. A petit jury hears the evidence and the arguments from opposing lawyers and decides a verdict. |
