Misuse of my children鈥檚 social security numbers 鈥?Who do I report it to?

Hi,

I鈥檝e recently found out that a relative has used my children鈥檚 names and social security numbers to obtain household utilities and probably other things as well.

I am in the process of requesting a credit report but what can be done about this? I would like this person to be held accountable for their actions. Who would I report this to?

You call the police. Take copies of the credit reports and file a complaint.
ID theft especially from children is disgusting.
Once that is done, take the police report and send copies to all the credit bureaus so a permanent ID victim notation is made on their reports.
Contact the utility companies and let them know they have been victimized as well, also send them copies of the police report..
You can also sue this person civilly to try and make sure that the debts are paid and your children are not negatively impacted.
See if you can contact the SS Administration to see if they would be willing to change the SS#s of your children. This one is a long shot but try anyway

I would contact everyone on the credit report and start having things shut off immediately and also contact the local police this is not called misuse it is called Identity theft it is a serious crime. Your children's personal information has been stolen and used without either of your knowledge to commit fraud or other crimes. You will probably have to contact a lot of places to save your children especially if they have been using their I.D. on line, check out these two links they will help a lot, GOOD LUCK

Have them arrested for identity theft. It is going to cause some problems for your kids until this gets straightened out so the sooner the better. You can get a credit report on line for free through www.annualcreditreport.com. This is NOT the one that charges you. It is the one that provides a free copy of your credit report from each of the three agencies per the law. I wish you luck prosecuting this flake. Anyone who does what they have deserves to be punished.

Contact the police immediately, then the social security administration and the utilities services. It's identity theft and theft of services.

Call you local county prosecutor or district attorney.
