I helped my ex brother in law move and I was injured due to his stupidity. Can I sue him for personal injury? |
He lived in another State and I gave him a list of things I would need, since I'm disabled, before I went there. Nothing was as he said it would be and therefore I've lost the full use of my hands due to him. Thanks Kate Any one can sue for anything. First: You obviously have not lost full use of your hands if you're typing the question. Over-estimating your claim is not a good start. Well, if you proceeded on to help, knowing that "nothing was as he said it would be" then the fault is yours alone. You do not give enough information to allow an intelligent response. If you want an intelligent response, consult a local lawyer. There is nothing about being a relative that prevents a personal injury law suit, but that relationship is the only specific thing you mentioned. Set up a free consultation with a good attorney. Let the professionals advise you as to whether you'd win in a court of law, and whether pursuing a lengthy and exPENsive legal battle would give you the outcome you want: money. I have no idea whether you have a case or not. You're asking the wrong forum. Sounds pretty serious. Does he have any assets? Call a lawyer I guess. Why didn't you just leave when he didn't have what you needed? Who calls a disabled person to help move? Fascinating. You can sue, but you need to prove he was negligent. Stupidity does not necessarily mean he was negligent or legal liable for your injuries. How was he negligent? No you cannot sue him. You volunteered to help him out. Unless he purposefully tossed something on you with the sole intent to hurt you, it is not his fault. |
