Does a misdemeanor DUI have to be claimed on an application for a teaching certificate? If it asks if you have been convicted of any misdemeanors or anything other than a traffic violation (as in moving violation such as speeding or disregard traffic signal), yes you do need to claim it. If it asks for only convictions that involve a crime of moral turpitude, such as theft, then no. But usually with misdemeanors that are not crimes of moral turpitude, like DUI, you will get a chance to explain. They would probably contact you about it if they felt it might be an issue. if it asks for felonies, no. but if it asked if you have ever been arrested, yah you have to tell then. but it is not a felony. so if thats the only thing on your record, then no you have not been convicted of a felony. now im not sure if it will show up when they do your criminal check tho. They cannot ask if you have been arrested-- it depends how long ago the misdemeanor happened, just answer no, if it comes up, and it shouldn't, because misdemeanors are history after 6 months, just say,oh that, it was so long ago. |
