Last Will and Testament..how do ya know if monies were given?

came across a will that left some monies to my dad and cannot find anything that shows he received..any way to check and with whom..

first, make sure the person died. you can check this out by going to the following website.

http://ssdi.rootsweb.ancestry.com/

check and see the county of disposition. you need to go to that county's register of wills to see if an estate was opened for that person. you can see the distribution in the form of an informal agreement or order of court from an audit. these will detail who got what. you'll also be able to see if the will was ever admitted to probate.

so basically, make sure they died, go to the register of wills of the county where they died or where there last residence was and ask if they have an estate file for that person. the file will detail all distributions if an estate was opened. good luck
