UK Last Wills and Testaments?

When writing a will with a solicitor do you have to disclose the value of various accounts? I have received a request for information for writing a will and it asks for these things, I know you do not enclose this information when one is writing a will via an online will service, and it usually is not in your will. After all, the value changes with time, so even if you just put down what the value is now, it will not be the same when you die. Do these details still need to be enclosed?

ok, I guess I meant that some accounts are invested in shares so the value always fluctuates, it depends on the exact day you want the money ... thats why I thought it would be pointless, and surely you dont update your will every time you make a deposit or withdrawal on accounts either...? Or am I over analysing it? Even putting a price down for property seems a waste of time because the property market varies...

Give all details asked for.

A solicitor has to keep what you say confidential, so it's o.k. to give the info, it won'r be revealed untill after your death.

In the meantime as you say things change, and you can make the changes when you feel you want to

The solicitor asks for details of accounts so that there will be no confusion after your death as to where your money was tucked away. He should not need to know the value: just the names of the holdings you have and the account numbers. These are not disclosed to anyone. Obviously, there will be changes in the course of your life and you will be moving your money about, but it is useful to have somebody who has a list of assets in your name, as your executors will no doubt find.

You don`t have to disclose the amount of money you have only the bank accounts you have so when you die the executor knows who to contact,I have just had mine done and thats all they wanted to know, if you are doing this on line it sounds a bit dodgy to me, see a solicitor face to face for something like this, it could be the best solution
