Should the United States remove the IN GOD WE TRUST off the money?

If seperation from church and state is correct and prayer is removed from the schools, Why do they still have this on our money if it was an issue. Did they just not want the young people to pray?

Certainly not. It is right to trust in God, and that already is a historical saying now, by the way.

And also, "separation of church and state" does not mean that politicians or government cannot believe in God. What it does mean is that people are free to have their religion.

If something like this really offends someone, they need to seriously think about how they evaluate stuff in their life.

Please note that 'separation of church and state' is NOT expressly written in the Constitution.
It was NOT an issue - the issue at the formation of the USA was the oppression of the protestants by England, and other catholic nations. When this country was formed, it was assumed that everyone believed in "god". The absence of religion was NOT considered at all.

While I personally think that religion has no place in government - please understand that this is NOT what our forefathers thought at all. For more information PLEASE read the Federalist Papers.

Separation of Church and State simply means that the government cannot impose a state religion on the people. It does not mean that people in office cannot have or practice a religion/faith. It also does not mean that we cannot have "In God we Trust" on our money (there is no specific Deity mentioned).

Students can pray in school, however the school cannot lead students in prayer.

NO it is part of our history

Money is the god.

I don't see any correlation between God and Church.
If it said "In a Christian God we trust" or "In a Muslim God we trust" etc. it would be a problem. The Constitution bans government association with churches, not God.

He's the only one to trust. The dollar coins have "In God We Trust" engraved around the edge.

The seperation of church and state is not supposed to be absolute. The ten commandments are depicted on the Supreme Court, Congress opens each session with a prayer, etc. For whatever reason, and I have not read the court's opinion, the Supreme Court decided that prayer in schools violated the "respecting" clause of the 1st amendment.

No, there is no reason to remove In God We Trust from our money. Our national seal, both parts of the back of the dollar bill, has numerous references to a diety.

I think it should be left alone. And I also think they should leave the "Pledge Of Allegiance" alone.

I personally think if should be kept on all of our currency (US that is).

So many people have lost sight of what our great country was founded on. Religious and political freedoms. However, many have taken it to the extreme, and liberal interpretations of what our forefathers intended have been made certain legal minds.

One can never completely separate church from state, not without alienating a certain part of the community, one way or the other.

This is a debate that could very well last the rest of our natural lives and more. Suffice to say, I'm one American that believes in God, and trusts in God. As for prayer in schools.. I think it should be left entirely up to the individual, but please don't tell me that I can't honor or express my beliefs just because you don't happen to believe in the same things. If you don't like it, don't watch or listen. Its as simple as that.

no no no no no no no no no no!

They already did it with the new $1 coins. Seems as if the Atheists won. I refuse to have them, if I get one, I say "no thanks, I'd like a dollar bill please".
