What do i do to get my trust fund at 18? |
I'm 18 as of today and want to go to the court to pick up my money, do you think they will provide me a check today, i won a lawsuit against a school for only 20k. I'd take all the copies of the legal paperwork, full ID including the BC. Again; you need to determine where the money is being hele (probably a lawyer's escrow account) and the trip to court will probably start the process that will end with the atty; I wouldn't count on getting a check today. Well it sounds simple, but it's not. If the court has ordered your money to be released on your 18th birthday, you now have to officially make notice to the court that you have proof you are alive and well and over 18 (through your lawyer), and they will then send the proper court order to where the money is being escrow ed to allow you access to it. (The court doesn't have your money. It's in an escrow account somewhere.) And since you say you won a lawsuit, has the judgment actually BEEN PAID? I only ask because usually no one ever ponies up the money until they really have to do it. :) you should probably ask your lawyer |
