High-tech lie detectors?

High-tech lie detectors are being introduced into many councils across the country to prevent fraudulent benefit claims, this is a brilliant idea, but would like to see the same technology used in Parliament by ministers and MPs when speaking, and the results displayed on TV, it can also be used in dispute between individuals and councillors to ascertain disputed conversations.
Brilliant idea, what do you think.

Ken E

I'm a full agreement with you but the council's and insurance companies are using this technology to filter out fraudulent claims and the government are backing them, what's good for us is good for them.

They are still junk science.

I think it is like 1984. These machines detect stress in the voice. This does not mean people are lying. They could have had a stressful day or they may be stressed out at having to make a claim or be a nervous person generally. It would not work with MP's anyway because they can tell lies while believing it is the truth so it would have no effect.
And Ken is right.

1) No technology is infallible but the sales people and those who choose it will always claim it is and rely upon the results without question. The user believing in technology blindly is idiotic and dangerous and likely to lead to injustice and miscarriage of justice.

2) Will the subject have real grounds to appeal or refuse. I doubt it? Will refusal be detrimental to that person? I suspect so. Blind Faith in technology is a dangerous route to take.

3) What about basic rights of individuals, these are being eroded at a frightening rate?
Yes we need to fight crime and fraud wherever possible but have we not gone too far? We are already subject to constant CCTV surveillance and we are watched more on CCTV than any other Country in the World. Combine that with covert phone tapping, movement monitoring as we travel etc, etc. I am no left wing liberal but the Government and authorities appear to be unchecked with the "big brother" tactics which have already gone too far for my comfort.

I heard about this this morning and laughed out loud. There is no such thing as a lie detector, and the council is using tax payers money for an enterprise that will ultimately fail miserably. But it's ok, it isn't there money afetr all.
