child support -My wife stop support 30yrs ago but the state still take my income tax -no back support?

how can I clean this off my state and fed. taxes

If the state didn't garnish your wages originally, the only way to prove you've paid is by showing checks or copies of money orders you gave. If you gave cash.... you're up the creek and will have to get a lawyer.

I'm afraid that you need to explain your question a bit more. You indicated that your wife stopped support 30 years ago. She was paying you support lie alimony or was it child support or were you paying her child support?

If you were ordered to pay your wife support and you did not pay it, you still owe it and she can go after you and take what you own, garnishee your wages or take your income tax refund. If you caught up your support to her, if that is the case, then you need to go to the support bureau and show them. the support is due from time a child is born until they are 18 in most states or graduate from high school. Doesn't last 30 years. But if you did not pay during that 18 years, it stays on the books and may well earn interest, to be paid by you, and she can collect it. My sister collected back support and it bought her a used corvette and her daughter was an adult. You owe support for your kids.

So best way to get it off the record is to go to the court or wher it was to be paid and to pay it or to show your receipts that you paid. Your wife can't just say, oh you don't have to pay. It was ordered b the courts. In fact, you and your wife could have agreed to a certain amount and the judge could determine a different amount of support as the judge has the best interests of the child.

If you were supposed to be paid support and she didn't pay you, then I would presume that government is saying that you received support and it is taxable and you would have to show it was not paid or go after her for any back support if it were due from her.

I hope I answered that for you both ways in case you owe support or were owed it. It was just not clear except in your mind as you know what you meant.

Child support after 30 years?? Aren't those kids a little old now!?? I would call the State and Tax people up and explain, HEH! the kids are grown now, and perhaps have kids of their own!! but who is getting the support after all these years? your ex-wife!?? That, I would definately ask, and if she is! I would take her to court and make her pay it all back! Get a lawyer!
