County Assessors GIS map..property tax based on map?

I am wondering if the GIS map that the county has on there website is what the property taxes are based on?

How is the land appraised? How do they know the correct amount of land that you own...

uh...the tax is based on the tax office appraisal. THE GIS is a representation and is not always correct
