How can I collect my social security check myself when I turn 18? |
My mother has been collecting my social security checks since my father passed away 11 years ago. I have been forced into believing that she has been spending the money against my will (None of this money has been contributed to the care of me). On February 24 I will be making 18 and I am trying to find out is there anyway I can get my last few checks sent to ME! I have no doubt that I can but I just want some wise opinions from experienced people before I take things into my own hands. Try contacting the Social Security Administration. They are online, and should be able to get you an answer. i'm sure that once you grow up you will seet hat the couple hundred your mom gets for your benifit was spent in your care,.. bills, groceries & mortgage/rent costs allot more than any child realizes. your ssi money was never ment to be an allowance for you to spend on the latest fashions, etc. this money was intended to help a parent pay for the nesesities in life. since your alive enough to type on a computer, i assume theres food in the kitchen & you must live at home cause otherwise your mom wouldent be getting them checks so i know she takes care of you! At your age no one thinks their mom is fair, & every 14- 24 (or more) year old knows everything & cannot be told how their life should best be run. so i hope that when you turn 18 and that ssi money is no longe contributing to your moms household expenses she has the good sense to stop telling you how to live & allowes you to move out & find out what real life is all about! .......in conclusion Go to the SSI office for which the phone book has an address & make your request. try not to barf it all up on Bourbon st.! yOU SHOULD GIVE THEM TO YOUR MOTHER TOO The money is to provide for your needs, shelter, food, clothing. So are you saying she never provided a place, food or clothing? Be very careful about what you're saying. |
