How do universities handle sexual harassment complaint?

what do they normally do? do they take it seriously? do they investigate?
can someone outside the uni(a visiter of the uni) make a complain against a staff or a student?

I can only speak for my wifes uni (she works in HR)

Yes. Any organisation should have a system in place for dealing with any complaint of this nature.

It should be investigated, with independent parties giving evidence, and if it is found to be true, action taken.

This would obviously depend on the severity of the accusation.

If necessary, and for security the accused may be moved to other duties / temporarily suspended whilst the investigation is carried out.

There has to be evidence for action to be taken however, or certainly n the case of a uni, every time a student was given a poor mark on an assignment...!
