Do you believe that laws against sexual harassment in the workplace hamper free speech?

In case you don't remember, I believe they passed in the late 1980's or early 1990's.

Although I can certainly sympathize with women who have been harassed, I think they offer little real help, and they were a harbinger of increasing government control on speech and expression.

Nope. Don't want people to insult and debase me.

But aren't there other solutions to that?

What I'm asking is how the government gets involved in "protecting" people at this level.

There are legitimate complaints regarding Sexual Harassment, but most are border line.

Also Intimidations and Harassment of other kinds are not investigated e.g. Sam's Club 6625 and the US politicians will not respond and offer help against major corporations.

Use Yahoo search, http://searchyahoo.com, or Goggle, http://www.google.com, and type Sam's Club 6625

If a comment is not only unwanted, but overtly sexual and demeaning in nature, then Free Speech
'technically" doesn't matter. You are free to say whatever you want, but, Constituition or none, there are consequences.

So you're saying that people who want to insult, debase & otherwise harass others should be allowed in the name of free speech?

wow...exactly. you are just the perfect little lady.
marry me!

Are you kidding me? Free speech has nothing to do with walking into your office that you share with another guy and their are nude photos and calenders all over the walls. Or you can't walk out of the room without whistles or comments made. That is not freedom of speech, that is harassment. I've worked in a male dominated field my entire career and I can roll with the punches, but some took it way too far to where even the men were uncomfortable. I swear, women today are trying to unravel everything we worked so hard for in the past. Where the hell is Helen Reddy with you need her.

Obviously, you've never been sexually harassed in the workplace or had a promotion or the ability to retain your job based on giving sexual favors.

Sexual harassment isn't about dirty talk, it's about demeaning a person and trying to use sex as a bargaining tool in the workplace. It's not just women who are harassed, it's men too. There was a case in the area I lived in where male truckers were sexually harassing another male trucker in the workplace.

Nobody's right are being infringed upon because you can't talk dirty at work because you talk all about sex in your home, at the bar, with your friends, on the phone, on the internet, etc.

No.

Free speech doesn't necessarily apply in a workplace setting, because it's a private enterprise. Therefore, someone can say something on the street that he can't or shouldn't say in the workplace. I don't quite understand it, but I think it's something about bosses having to ensure safety and freedom from emotional distress for all their employees.
