If I file a report can it be kept confidential?

If I file a report at the police station regarding sexual harassment, can it be kept confidential? Or can people find out that I filed the complaint?

Asides from the person I filed against, can other people find out?

The person who you filed the report could tell anyone he wanted to if he wanted.

He may be issued with a court order instructing him not to if he goes to the press if you ask for one.

If it was a workmate, the Police may go to HR dept and any Supervisor or Manager to ask how you got on with everyone.

They have to investigate, if people put 2 and 2 together and think they know why the Police are asking them questions its cant be avoided. They woud be discreet and your Managers would be told not to discuss it with other workmates.

Anyone who they spoke to may not be given your name or his name but, he has a right to call witnesses in his defense so it may become public knowledge.

The person who you file against will find out it is you.
