Statute of Limitations???

Is there a statute of limitations on sexual harassment? I am writing a paper for my English class and I need this information for my report. I live in Arizona if that makes a difference in the law.

Yes almost all crimes have a statute of limitations, noteably except murder. States time limits vary but are generally the same.

Also, sexually harassment is usually a civil matter unless violent threats and/or physical contact is involved.

Finally, if one continues conduct that impedes investigation or coercion of a witness etc, that can be considered a continuance of the crime. In other words if it has been 'x' amount of time since the original instance and someone threatens someone from saying something about said crime, then the time line continues from the last instance.

Different states have different laws. Federal laws are good for all states. Research what Arizona has in the way of SOL for sexual harassment. Then compare what the Federal laws are. States cannot override Federal Statutes. They can only enhance (make the punishment more severe).

However, for filing a claim, it is usually 180 days from the date of the alleged incident. Again, it will depend on the individual states on what, if any, SOL applies.

Best bet is to ask an attorney who handles these types of cases.

Murder and treason are about the only crimes that do not have a statute of limitations.

Murder and treason are about the only crimes that do not have a statute of limitations.

I do not know about treason not having a Statute of Limitation. I am pretty sure that Income tax evasion or Income Tax fraud does not have any Statute of Limitations. Some States have talked about putting Rape into this group of no time limitations.

Most states have a limit of two years on Personal Injury lawsuits. I do not know about Arizona.

Each state's laws will vary. For most criminal charges (as could be brought with sexual harassment for sexual imposition) there's a statute of limitations -- that's the same for civil matters (which would be. . . sexual harassment).

There's a statute of limitations -- I don't know what it is, though.

If you go to your state's website, you should have access to yours state laws and regulations -- there, you should be able to find the statute of limitations.
