Do you believe social security should be privatized?

I want to hear both sides...

That's a tough question, I don't think you could privatize it at this point. I do think they need to change the laws so that SS funds are not usable as part of the general funds. I also think they need to put the funds in a simple savings account. Which would draw way more interest than the 1.8% they are making now.

The vast majority of people will pay more into social security than they will get out

Even someone earning minimum wage, if they put the same amount that that put into social security into private investments instead, the return would be double

As it is the system will be bankrupt by about 2015, and everyone not receiving benefits by that time is pretty much screwed

And btw, I'm a democrat =O

They need to do something with it for real. I don't think making it private will make any difference. Corporate America is just as bad if not worse than the Government. Let's look at Health Care isn't that a prime example.

No, I believe social security should be abolished. I want the 15% of my income that goes to social security back so I can invest it for my retirement.
