So carrying swords is legal?

Two men walked into a target store with sheathed samurai swords attached to their back. My friend, who works security there, called the police. He informed them that "two people with swords" walked into the store. The police then asked if they were threatening anyone with them. They weren't, so the police said they could not make an arrest on the individuals.

So carrying a sword is legal if you're not making threats?

There it is. Here, it isn't. It totally depends on the laws of your jurisdiction.

In any case, security or management has the right to ask them to leave, and to forbid anything they want for being brought onto their property. In fact, employing a security staff and not asking an obviously armed person to leave is setting the company up for liability.

It would be a different story if they were playing swords.
