Cought shoplifting at Walmart? |
I was cought at Walmart shoplifting something that was 2.65 but cops weren't call and security told me that just to respond to a letter that Walmart will be sending me soon, can they still prosecute me for that? In most states, there is a period of at least one year in which you could be charged with a crime. Since the police were not called when you were stopped by loss prevention, chances are you will not be charged with a crime if you pay the amount that Wal-Mart will be requesting in that letter. If you don't pay, you'll get sued in civil (non-criminal) court, and they might decide to call the police to file a police report. you can still be prosecuted... most laws that any one breaks has a certain amount of time in which a prosecutor can charge somone criminally. i forget what it is called.... but ya you can be. Do not respond to the letter, other than denying what it states. Otherwise you may be confessing to something. why steal something that only cost 2.65? |
