What should i do i am scared...?

i think someone is coming on my porch at night between 12-2 am my room is right next to my porch. it sounds like a person cause the steps are heavy and far apart. i turned my light on when i heard the commotion outside and when the lights came on the steps went towards the porch steps and off, i slept with the light on until my mom got up at 3 am. i am very scared. we live off the main road on a dirt road i have tied yarn across the porch in several places to try and trip the person and i asked my neighbor if i could call her when/if i hear it again and have her look out her window. what do i do i am so nervous i can sleep. i don't have and security cameras or anything

i dont know if it is worth bothering the police cause they will just tell us that it could be an animal cause we live next to/into the woods but i know it isnt you can tell by the sound of the foot steps

Report it to the police, if you have a dog, let it sleep in your room, if you don't have a dog, get some audio of a big, mean one barking and have it ready to play.
And tell your parents. I remember being that scared when I was in my early teens and I actually slept in the bathtub because it was the only room with a lock on the door. I wish I would have told my parents how scared I was. They would have let me camp out on their bedroom floor if I had.
Maybe you could spend the night at a friend or relative's house if you will feel more secure tonite.

Sometimes an animal will also do this, raccoons can be very noisy, and they like to peek in windows. If your porch is very open, a curious deer could walk across it, or depending on where you live, a bear. If you have any catfood or anything on the porch, you may want to take it in at night.

Keep a knife with you all the time, and when you sleep keep it under your pillow (well, if you want, i do and it makes me feel way safer at night) tell your parents and if it happens again, call the cops

could have just been someone looking in your house to see if anything is worth stealing

Maybe you should get a dog? That is very scary to me. A motion light on the porch would also be a good idea. AND I would call the police and report it. There might be foot prints from the mud?

This is part of the reason for the 2nd Amendment.

A gun is a great equalizer. Find someone in town who can teach you how to handle a gun. NOT jsut how to shoot it, but to handle it safely.

Then get one!

sleep with all your pooches tell your parents try to stay up and see whta is going on try doing this with a friend just to make things safer have your friend sleep over and investigate!

Go talk to your parents, let them know how scared you are and I bet they will figure something out.

You should call the POLICE.

This sounds like a very good excuse to go to the local animal shelter and adopt a German shepherd mix. You need a dog companion who will bark and sound ferocious when strangers approach.

I had a German shep. mix for several years. She was very loyal to and protective of me. She did not generally bark at other animals (except skunks), but she would lay her body over mine, perk her ears forward, and bark a ferocious bark when people came too near the house at night.

I live alone in a run-down neighborhood in a very large city... and, when my Sammy was alive (cancer took her from me last year), I never felt unsafe. My two new (newly adopted) dogs are not as protective as Sammy was... they are very lovable and playful, in fact, but they bark ferocious, intimidating barks when folks come too close, and that warning bark is good enough for me.

Ok, well here is another tactic I used to use when I lived in apartments and did not have a dog... Buy one of those big, long, metal mag-lites flashlights (Wal-Mart has them) and keep it by your bed within easy reach. Keep a sharp knife (like a steak knife) within easy reach, also. One other thing I used to do, was to keep an iron (for ironing clothes) on one side of my bed, near the electric socket. When I heard "scary strange people" noises near my window, I'd plug the iron in. I figured that if someone came close enough I could try hitting them in the face with a hot iron... I might not have fared well, but the police would know to be looking for a guy with iron burns on his face or body.

Also, Radio shack has battery powered door alarms that make a very loud, disturbing noise, when a door is opened (one that was presumably closed for the night). I had one of those, also.

Have your parents request a patrol car during those hours for a few nights. The police are happy to do that if they have a car free.
Sleep with the lights off except for the porch light.
Sleep with your bedroom door open-not closed.
Make sure your curtains or blinds are closed.
And, if you have a dog or cat, bring them to bed with you.
Animals are very good at alerting or comforting.
Oh, and make sure all the cars are locked.
No, the police won't attempt to tell your parents what it is or isn't. They will simply send a car to patrol.
