A few days ago, I did something really bad, without anyone noticing at that time. Just to mention, I had just turned 18 and feel very regretful about what I did. I shoplifted a store, and stole 2 cds. Till now I counted myself lucky because I got to sneak out of the store and nobody realized I had just taken stuff with me. The alarm somehow started beeping several seconds after, so nobody could connect me with the incident. Although I'm sure they found out afterwards that stuff was missing. I felt this lucky till now, when a friend of mine told me that there were security cameras and that 99% they could recognise me using the tape. So after being told this, I'm pretty sure I'm going to be arrested. I can't see how I can get away with this. So right now I'm kinda scared, I've never been arrested before in my life, and I keep thinking about police officers ringing my doorbell and dragging me out. How can I find out what way they're going to treat me? Are they going to be calm and kind? Or am I going to be manhandled no matter what I say? And then there's another thing. Is there any way I can avoid getting handcuffed behind my back? I'm scared stiff when I think of being forced into cuffs. Perhaps I could just be calm and cooperative? Do you think it would help or are they going to do the cuffing anyway? And what if I get sentenced to jail time? Will I be obliged to handcuffs? Please answer this question...

Ok I have news. I decided to take the situation into my own hands. I went to the store, returned and payed for the stolen cd's and explained the manager what had happened. I told him I was really sorry and stupid. He promised not to press charges against me, but he had to call the police since the incident had already been reported. I accepted that and sat there while he called the police to explain everything. After a quater of an hour a female officer came and told the manager that I'd have to give her a good explanation in order to avoid getting locked up. Unfortunately I couldn't avoid the cuffing part. She wasn't rough, nor kind, but she was strict enough to have me stand up against the wall and slap the handcuffs behind my back. I have to admit, that was very humiliating. Being restrained by a girl-officer is extremely uncomfortable. After about half an hour at the police station, I was just released. Luckily I got away with just detention and nothing more...

Go back to the store, talk to the manager, explain all this, and pay for the CD's. They could still prosecute, but they may not.

sounds to me you learned your lesson, lets hope this sticks with you for the rest of your life!!because this can effect ,getting visa's bank loans, credit cards and even if you wanted to join the marines or the army.pass your new found wisdom on to the younger ones and you shall become a productive member of society.

Believe it or not, being scared is good for you right now.

If the police come to your house, they'll probably question you first. They won't get rough if you cooperate. Always remember that if the police have to come get you (as in running away), they're bringing an azz kicking with them.

If they handcuff you, which will happen if you're arrested, they will cuff your hands behind your back. This is standard procedure. You'll just have to suck it up and get through it the best way you know how.

I hope you learned a lesson about stealing. It sounds like you have. Good luck.
