I was caught by shoplifting, will I be recorded?

I am over 18. I'm so embarssed I did it..It is my first time, I swear... those items are worth around $700...
The security called the police over and the police asked me some questions and recorded. At the end he gave me a "Court Attendance Notice" and also a yellow slip, saying I can prevent attending court by filling this slip and choosing to plea guilty, probably I will receive a fine or "session 10". I was so scared and when I came back home, I filled that slip and tick the "plea guilty" part, attaching a letter saying I am really sorry and will never do it again, then mail it to the court.

This thing passed hours but now, I am still scared and can not calm down. I am embrassed to talk to anyone, I feel myself so silly of doing that. I can't wait the judgement so I want to ask a few questions here, hope anyone can help me...
Is what that police told me true? He said it is because i am the first time, next time I will go into a jail. I swear to god there wont be next time any more. But, what will be my consequence? Will I be recorded into any police systems that this history will be shown through any police check? I am looking for jobs, once the employer asks for processing police check, will they be aware of this? Also I will apply for citizenship in a few months, will this affect my applications? Shall I answer "yes" in those good character questions? What will the fine cost around? Actually I dont mind paying a fine if I can get this thing gone. Will I be permanently recorded, or just let this passed by paying a fine penalty?

I am so regretted now. Remind everyone, dont shoplift, impulse at one second will affect your life long...

Thanks for any professional help.

Yes I'm guilty. I am feeling hopeness now, my life is destroyed. Can I conclude that I will have a life long record and it will affect my citizenzhip application? I am in Sydney.

$700.00 and you expect no record? Saying your sorry is a line Law enforcement hears all the time or the old this is my first time is another. The amount you STOLE would tell me only that your sorry you got caught and it was the first time you got caught.Do not know where you live but if i was the court you would do at least a week to 10 day's in jail plus a fine of half the value of your theft. You sound to me exactly like the little child who is about to be punished for being caught doing what they knew was wrong.

Yes, by pleading guilty you will have a record. Any police checks will show that conviction on your record.

I think you would be lying if you checked "yes" in the good character questions, your record will obviously contradict that.

A letter will not help you, no matter how sincere you sound. That's what going to court does, let's you plead your case.

That was quite a lot you stole. Wasn't like it was just a DVD or a bottle of beer or anything. They might be quite harsh on you but you probably wont go to jail and the fact you are sorry and pleaded guilty will stand in your favour too. It will be recorded though.

you are screwed, you will have a record and it will be very doubtful you get citizenship.
don't know were you are from ,but they should have taught you not to take things that don't belong to you.
sorry you did this to your self, now take your medicine like others.

you need to seek legal representation (read: get a lawyer). you should NEVER talk to the cop, it's bad for you. cops aren't your freind. you probably will have a record, unless your lawyer can get you off. the fines will probably be a few hundred dollars (200-1000). you need to ask your lawyer if it will affect your application. if you are found guilty, it will appear on a background check.

listen, im in the same boat. i have NEVER been in trouble, ever. i recently got caught doing something really stupid... and the cops were involved. i will have a record for the rest of my life. it was a bad move i was stupid i was dumb i was bad... but i have learned from it. there's also a program you could get involved (in the US, if that's where this happened) that can purge your record. your lawyer will fill you in.
