Can posting someone elses personal information online get you in trouble?

For example: Mary upsets Bob by leaving him. Bob has all her personal information like social security numbers, address, full birth name, birthday, credit card numbers, checking account numbers with PIN - everything. And then Bob posts all this information online. Perhaps on a hacker's website or craigslist or something. Can Bob get in trouble for this? As Bob isn't stealing anyone's identity or making any sort of threat other than spreading information that he knows?

(P.S. I haven't done this, but I know someone who has. While it seems like a good idea, what are the consequences of this if any?)

Do you really think this may sound like a good idea? Wow.

Yes, there could be very serious consequences for it, both criminal and civil.

He may know this private information, but that doesn't mean he's free to pass it out to strangers who may abuse it.

Wow. 炉\(潞_o)/炉

Big trouble. And it's a federal crime, so it won't be the local police knocking on the door. Well, it might be at first, but ultimately it's the FBI's jurisdiction.

Bob is a dumba**. Even if he takes the info down, if someone has already used it, Bob's screwed. You are never really anonymous online, this can easily be traced back to him.

some of what you mention is public infromation and you can't get in trouble for posting that but some is "PRIVATE" such as the SS# and Credit Card# ...to answer your question YES they can be sued !

Yes it can, the person can make a copy of this, and file charges against whoever posted the information illegally..

YESSSSSSSSS!!
