My social security number has leaked out and i think someone is using it, what are the ways to look out for it

i was trying to check my credit score online and they wouldnt give it to me because of some 篓shady篓doings last year. they said that i tried purchasing a house! i still live with my parents and that thougt didnt even cross my mind. what are some of the things people could do if they had my social secruity number.

Anything you can do with your social. Someone else can do with it, if they have it.

You need to contact the police and file a police report for identity fraud and you need to contact the three reporting agencies to put a hold on your social so that you can sort this all out. It's all relatively inexpensive.

Experian
Trans union
Equifax

Call the attorney general in your state to report this.
Call the major credit reporting agencies to put a block on your social security number so no one can use it
Cancel all credit cards and get new numbers. Make sure you have a high security on each new account.
Things they can do with your social security number are:
Open credit cards in your name
Buy a home
Buy a car
Buy a boat
Take out a second mortgage on a home
Get a line of credit
Run up a bunch of gambling debts at casinos
The list is endless. Get this fixed or it will haunt you forever.

Call or go to a Social Security office and request for a new number but to check it also talk to them. As for the credit score call one of the local creidt companies and see what they say as for giving you info on the the report and if you can't get acess ask how can you identify yourself to them to get down to dirty business with your information.

Get a new one.
you need to complete a Form SS-5, which you can download from the SSA site. Your new number will be the same as your old number, but to get a replacement card you will need to have proof of identity, such as:

* Driver's license
* Employer ID card
* Marriage license or divorce decree
* Military records
* Adoption records
* Passport
* School ID card
* Health insurance card (Medicare card not accepted)

They could apply for credit cards, loans, identification, medical benefits. Identity theft is a serious crime. Also, ensure that you had the correct SSN. Sometimes people cross the numbers and then freak out when it is not theirs.
Find your local Social Security Office and they can assist you!

your stupid. When you check your credit report, they ask you questions only you would know. For instance that house question is a trick question I've been asked that too. You just select "D" for none of the above. Duh!

call social security administration. They will put a flag (or something like that) on your number to watch out for suspicious activity.

if i were you i'd go to the social security office & find out what to do. if it's serious enough you might need a new one.

Go here. http://www.ssa.gov/pubs/idtheft.htm. And do it now before anything worse happens.

sign up identity protection. These services usually provide high tech to security your personal information.

they can get credit cards and charge money to your name i think you should probably report it before you get identity theft
