Help, I'm having a morality crisis.?

A friend of mine is applying for a job at one of the Casino's around here, and she is not quite what she seems to be. I know she once found a purse at said Casino and gave it to her boyfriend who took all the money from it. She didn't take the money from the purse but, spent it. The Casino security found her with the purse and asked her to leave the premises. However they didn't write down her name or any information on her. She wants me to be a reference for her. I can't do it without mentioning the above incident. Should I tell her this or inform some of my friends who work at the Casino? She will be applying today 7-23-08.

She isn't my friend but her boyfriend is, she takes things from work often has never been caught. She doesn't have many friends who would know how to give her a good or bad reference. I know that I will not lie for her or anyone. It is a personal reference and I have asked her a few times not to use me but she still puts my name down as a reference.

Depends, is she using you as a "job" reference or as a "personal" reference? If it's a job reference you only need to answer the questions they ask.
Such as:
Does she miss a lot of work?
Would YOU hire her? etc.

The second question answers your question. NO, from the sound of things she is not trust worthy and you would not hire her.
OR, you can tell her NOT to use you as a reference because of the reason you stated above. It bothers you that she took the purse and spent the money. So, you will not lie for her.

good luck

Would you hire her? Truly.
If you even have to ask this question than your on the right path. The rest is up to you. You don't have to bad mouth her just come up with a reason why you can't be a reference. If it comes done to it tell her the truth. A true friend is hard to come by. Would you ask her to watch your wallet without counting your money first? I didn't think so. Friend? Acquaintance?

I would say no, for a reference. Just say, if asked, that you are not in a position to give a reference.

Just tell her you can't be a reference and if she asks why tell her. No crisis at all.

It's ok to be able to do the right thing. :)

you can always tell her you will be a reference and then not return employers calls
