What are your thoughts on National ID Cards and RFID Chips?

I heard that all new passports have this RFID chips in them and they can track you from this chip.
Also, the National ID's are supposed to be in the works this year. Again, with an RFID Chip.
The conspricay theorist say that in the future they are going to chip all products in stores and all money so they will know exaclty how much money you have and what you bought.
Are people willing to give up there privacy for so call "security"?

The passport chips and the national ID card are very true and in the process. The new passports definately have the chip that I have saw myself on a friends that just got one to go on a cruise. The national ID card is supposed to be completed by 2010 but they are going to fall short of the finish line because many of the states are rufuting.
My personal oppinion of these is that it's absolutly wrong. It's just another way to take our privacy away. It is a form of modern day branding, like cattle. Of course the government will claim it's for our security......suuuurrre.

All new passports do indeed have an RFID chip embedded in them.
The REAL ID plan, which is in effect a national ID card, has had some setbacks. Some states are reluctant to implement the program, but the Federal government is applying pressure to force its adoption. Soon anyone who does not have a REAL ID compliant ID or driver's license will not be able to enter Federal buildings or apply for Federal benefits like Social Security.

See my references below.

I already have a National ID card, Social Security! No one is ever going to put a chip in me, however if I should happen to have dementia or Alzheimer's, it might be nice if my family could track me if I happened to stray! But that would be their choice, not mine! I don't happen to want to give the government any more control over me than they absolutely must have to protect this country! I hate losing my rights, it always starts small & for your own good!

Ever heard of your social security card or driver's license? It is a national ID card. I do not see the big deal behind this. If the government thinks that issuing these will make our lives operate more smoothly, then so be it. The government is going to do what they want. If you do not like it, vote and elect people who hold the same opinions as you.

There are RFID chips in passports but it is just a security device which hold information, they do not track you. My new passport has one and all it holds is the information in my passport

The National ID is already in play. So far 3 states have opted out. This is a perfect example of a government run amok. This is just one more reason I dislike Bush and Cheney so intensely.

It will provide a false sense of security to have the government know your every habit. We need LESS government not more tools for government to use against us.

It's a rumor, probably from some religious nut who is worried about mark of the beast 666, etc.

I am not willing. They are already tracking the public.

The cards are a good idea but the RFID chips idea scare me!
