Can a widow receive Social Security benefits if she's working? |
My neighbor's husband died a month ago. She was hoping she would get her husband's S.S. checks, but they told her that since she is working, she will not get anything. She's 62 years old. That is correct because my Brother passed away a few years ago and my Sister inlaw has to wait untill she is 62 befor she gets anything. She can apply on her own or apply under her husband's SS depending on which one gives her more money. She will only be able to make about $12,000 a year until she turns full retirement age. It depends on her income. There is a minimum she can earn. After that she forefits $1 for every $2 of income. |
