Is It Illegal to take A picture of someone in the Mall without their permission?

I took a picture of someone without their permission at the mall but when I came to delete it ( and he the person knows I wanted to delete it ) he didn鈥檛 let me and came and attacked me and the security guards kicked me out of the mall even though I wanted to delete the picture !!

Yes and no.

You are allowed to take someone's picture in a public place, or if they can be seen from a public place.

It is likely that the mall ( I assume a shopping mall ) is owned by a private company. However the public have access.

The company have the right to remove anyone from their premises, without giving reasons and this is what they did.

The above applies to the UK

If you take a picture of someone in a public place, or visible from a public place, then you CANNOT be "invading their privacy". You do not have privacy in a public place ; that's why it's called "public".

It is not even illegal to photograph someone in a private place, such as a shopping mall. You may be asked to leave, and if asked to, you must, but photography, other than obvious cases like obscene pictures of children, is not a matter of criminal law, but civil law. Therefore, no one can demand that you delete photographs you have taken, even if they are "security guards" (the modern posh name for store walkers). Indeed, even the police cannot instruct you to delete your photographs, nor can anyone confiscate your camera. The police only have jurisdiction in criminal law, they have none at all to enforce civil law.

It's probably legal but if you started taking pics of me then I would most certainly attack you and I wouldn't hold back.
By taking someones pic without there permission you are invading there privacy and you may alter the pic and upload it to the net and god knows what else.
If you wanna keep taking pics then I suggest you get the persons permission first.

haha - thats 'sobriety' for you, they're all a bunch of wankers mate. next time get a mate to film the 'harsh treatment' dished out by the security guards on you....then put it on youtube ok ?

dude you should SO carry on doing what you do, you ROCK !!!!! \m/

You can take a picture of anyone and record anything if you are in public. But, if someone gets pissed off enough, they'll attack you. They feel like you are invading their privacy and with their picture you can do anything like put it all over the internet.

no it is tecnically legal, but now days its kind of suspisious when people take pictures of random people because you never know what they are going to do with it.

so take as many pictures as you like, but dont get caught by somebody or you could be accused for something.

Taking picture of the public is allowed, however the mall itself may have a problem with it.
Also if your planning on using the photos in a media sense then you may need permission.

I don't think its illegal unless its of little kids maybe.

The paparazzi snap away and noone puts them in prison so yeah i would say its ok.

yes it is illegal without the persona consent.

You shouldn't go around with a camera strapped to the toecap of your shoe you know? It gets the ladies in short skirts a little bit paranoid LMAO.....

yes it is illegal . in legal terms it's called STALKING you mad flasher click click click !!!!!

No! It's not illegal to take a person's picture in a public place.
