Employer wants to cut my job grade, but keep me doing the same job, can he do this?

When I applied for my job I said the wages were too low, and therefore declined the offer. I was called back the next day and told that I could get a special payment of 拢50 a week for responsibilitys (Namely security of the Warehouse) and I took the Job on this basis. That was 8 years ago. 2 Years ago, a new manager reviewed this agreement and said it wasnt corporate and told me he was taking it off me, after much coming and going it was decided to put me up to a grade D wage (team leader) and I kept the same wage, doing the same Job. Now 2 years on they are giving me the option of changing my job to a Nightshift Team leader at the same wage, OR take a 拢50 a week paycut doing the same job.

What are my options here? I intend to carry on doing the same job for the same money.

What does your contract of employment say? Go and make an appointment for a 20 minutes consultation with a solicitor from the citizens advice bureau.

Consult your union member or speak to a solicitor as it depends on your contract and company policy as to whether/how they can change your contract.

If you are not in a union, join one now! If you ring up a union they will give you advice straight away-my friend did this, it cost her 拢2.50 per week.If you have been doing a job on a certain wage and conditions for over a year it is normally considered as a contract. Let your employers know that you are seeking advice from your union-you don't need to tell them that you havn't yet joined!!
Don't be bullied!
Good Luck
