Does a completely misspelled name on a traffic ticket go on your record?

I got a speeding ticket awhile back that I neglected to pay on time. The officer significantly misspelled my first and last name on the ticket, and this was how it was entered in the public records (I checked). About a year later, I called the Circuit Clerk to ask about paying the ticket because I was moving back to that city and wanted to clear things up. She couldn't find any record of the ticket, until I told her exactly how my name was misspelled. My question is this--if a potential employer did a background check or something on me, would this ticket likely turn up? Would the ticket be linked to my social security number somehow, or just by name?

The answer is maybe. It depends on how your State works to match up things like this. As a result of a misstated birth date on a ticket, a second driving record was created for my son. It was a mess to clear up - and it had to be fixed before he could renew his license.

The ticket can be linked to you by your drivers license number. You can check to see if this ticket shows up by obtaining a copy of your driving record from the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or the revenue office. Good Luck!!!

I'm not sure if it does but you should ask to redo it so nothing will happen.

It might. By calling them you might have given them just the information to fix it so it will show up. Why would an employer care whether you have a traffic ticket (unless you're applying to a job where driving is a big part of the job)?

It depends on whether other identifying information was put into the records and what identifying information they're using to perform the search. Maybe the cop got your SSN, and your employer searches by your SSN. Maybe the employer only searches by name. There is no set way to do a background search. There are a lot of different possibilities here, and there's no way for anyone to know unless they know exactly what was put into the public records and how the employer performs the search.
