What legal rights do I have? |
Someone I know (who does not like me due to personal reasons) came into my job (has every right to be there, is a public place) and saw me working there. I was around 50 or so feet away from her. We did not exchange words or communicated in any other way. I also have not seen/spoken to her in over a year. left to take a break and when I came back 20 or so minutes after the guard (they are real city cops on detail duty) was at the door telling me that due to a "threat that i gave someone" (the girl that hates me) that I am not allowed back in. I went to the offices (different building) and told my manager and him and security reviewed the surveliance tapes and saw that I was no where near her to be making threats and allowed me to enter my workplace and are pretending that "it never happened." i must also add. I am required to wear a uniform to work so it is obvious that I was working there. You should speak to your lawyer and talk about a restraining order or there is this one right about spreading a rumor that is not true that can ruin you reputation. Good luck! You should also get that video tape for evidence. Not much, but you can try to have her charged for making false statements about you. (A form of harassment). The problem is that you also have to show you suffered a loss, or damage, at your work place. Apparently your home office doesn't want to pursue the incident any further, and that would not help your case. It is called libel and slander. I do not know which state you are in so I wouldn't be familiar with you state's laws but You can check it out at your local law library located in the courthouse of the County Seat where you live. The law library is open to the public. Slander is a civil violation and making a false report to a peace officer is a criminal violation. You might collect money from the person for the civil offense and have them arrested for the criminal act, depending upon your local laws and any other relevant facts you may not even be aware of. |
