Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness?

As I was sitting at my workstation I pondered about this typical situation which is real to me and my fellow employees.
Recently there was a high volume of overtime at my workplace. And I being a good employee, have contributed in helping out and have done my fair share all while going to school full-time and a half. My working hours are from 2pm-10pm and my school hours are from 7:30 am to 12 pm. As of 4-6 weeks ago, management has been assigning mandatory overtime as a way to prevent losing 鈥渂illed鈥?hours (I work in contracted private security). Now, my question is, if I were to get assigned overtime hours during the time I were to be in school, would that be fringing my pursuit of happiness which are the 鈥渋nalienable rights鈥?stated in the Declaration of Independence? Let me know your thoughts. Thanks

I am happy with current employer. The job pays me well enough to provide for my family (Most people would be surprised how much I make). I am going to school to better my life and provide a better life for my family. I have no intent in leaving but I would be very upset if I were to be assigned overtime during my school schedule, knowing that my employers know my school schedule also.

You're doing it wrong.
Your legal rights are outlined in The Constitution.
The Declaration of Independence does not infer any any rights to you as a citizen. The Declaration of Independence is nothing more and nothing less than a legal declaration of sovereignty from the United States to England.
Unless you're a member of the English government trying to take control of the United States as a British possession, the Declaration of Independence doesn't apply to you.
The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution are two entirely different things.

Your right to pursue happiness doesn't mean that your employer has to provide it for you. If you are unhappy at your current job, pursue something else.

No...you can choose not to work there, and then be on your merry way to happiness.
