How do I get a birth certificate and Social Security card?

How does a teen girl get a new birth certificate and Social Security card?

um, i dont have one right now. i don't understand what you are talking about.

You can receive a certified copy of your original birth certificate by contacting the vital statistics department of the state in which you were born. The following site has some contact information on birth certificates.

To receive a Social Security card follow the directions on the following link.

By the way... you will need your parent's permission and signature in order to receive them since you are a minor.

Your parents have to have your birth certificate and Social Security card. They have to report your SSN every year on their income taxes.

They should have these documents for safekeeping. These are valuable documents and they need to be kept in a safe deposit box at the bank or in a fireproof safe at home and only removed when absolutely needed. Identity theft of children's identities has become the fastest growing crime in America. Make sure your parents are protecting yours.

You yourself (if under 18) cannot obtain these documents without your parents since you need to produce identification to get replacements. They no longer just "hand them out." Procedures for getting replacement documents are becoming much more cautious due to the epidemic of identity theft.

As long as the birth certificate is for yourself this what you would do. First, go to the courthouse in the county which you were born. Next, take the birth certificate and a letter with your home address on it to the Social Securtiy office nearest to you. You should be good go from here. Good Luck!
P.S.
You may need to know your mothers maiden name and the town she was born in. Each one is a little different.

Get a certified copy of your birth cetificate from the County Recorder's Office and bring it into your local SS Office.
