Apparently someone used my social security number for work. What are the legal ramifications for that?

Someone worked for over a year at a company in a different city with MY social security number. I just found out recently and am working on getting the whole mess straightened out. What are the general consequences for someone using another person's ss # without their knowledge? If the person is an illegal immigrant, can they be deported?

If the person is an illegal immigrant, he or she can be deported regardless of whether or not the person stole your identity.

You may have civil remedies, and the government may have a criminal action. If the problem is severe enough, you may need to seek the help of an attorney. That way, you will get sound advice and the best possible result.

The crime that person commited is called Identity Theft, and it is a felony in the USA, I know a person who did this kind of crime, (she was also an illegal immigrant) she did 6 months in jail, and is awaiting what the judge is going to do, she will most likely get deported! so sorry this happend to you.

It is fraud and they can be deported. but first you have to find them and really if they were illegal in the first place they will just jump the border again the second they get the chance.

They would deported regardless. But yes you do have options. But the bad part is you are going to have a hard time getting it all straight expect a year.
