My partner is a security guard. At least how many people should be on site at any one time?

Some of sites are a mile long, he has no torch, and has worked over 12 hours twice in three days. one day working 17 hours.

I've only ever worked alone, and on much bigger sites than that. I guess how many guards is up to how many guards the client wants.

Welcome to the commercial security industry - that's just the way it is. You may find he also has no real insurance if he's injured..... If he has a radio or torch, positively spoiled. If they give you batteries for the torch - amazing; radios that work - I just wouldn't believe it.

There has been thought of regulating the industry but the reality is the company owners don't want it and the government don't want to.

I believe that 17 hours is too long if he is patroling all day. It depends on how much risk is involved in the job and how much area needs to be covered. For example you would not have a one security guard at a party to manage 200 people, you need to have atleast 3 or 4. Also if the area needs to be patrolled by foot and he cannot go around the whole area within 30 min, then they need to have atleast one more guard to work with him. Also depend if the area is fenced or not. If its not fenced and its a large area, you need atleast 2 guards. Also whats the history of incidents at that place. If it has a history of break ins and Grafitti and that kind of stuff, they really need to have at least 2 security guards. I have my oun party security company and we suppy security guards for private party. We usually like to have 1 security guard per 50 guests if the alcohol is served or 1 security guard every 100 if its an alcohol free party for the safety of our security guards.

I think it's one, and that is the only reason you have security in many places - as a minimal legal requirement, and for insurance purposes of the building.

I found most companies don't really want security at all, they don't check up to see if anything is being done then just want a warm body there for compliance and public image.

Depends what site he is working at, generally it is two people at any one time and a I only work a maximum of 12 hours.

Only one then!!!!!!!!!! Let me know where he is working and I will send a van and a couple of the boys to visit him

depends on what its securiting and how dangerous it is. But thats pretty long hours.
