Security tag still on dress? |
I bought a dress from lords and taylor last summer before I left for school. I never wore the dress before I left and it has been sitting in my dresser for almost a year. I went to try it on today and saw that the security tab(that plastic cream tag) was still on it. I was going to take it back to the store, but my friend told me not to. She had a friend that happened to and they accused her of stealing it and tried to arrest it. Can they really do that. I swear i really did pay for it and it was not cheap so I do not want to have to buy another dress. I never noticed because I never wore it. I live in NY if it matters What I would do, is call them and explain the entire situation. The fact that it is last years dress actually helps you I think. Logically, you did not recently steal the dress. No real thief would have waited a year before asking them to remove the tag. In addition, most professional shoplifters have already stolen a tag remover (they don't have this problem) . The amatuer shoplifters don't care if they damage the dress with a nail file, etc. , because they didn't pay for it anyway. Just tell the truth and ask them if you can bring it in . That will also serve to show you are not trying to "run in and out" before the "jig" is up. It indicates that you are certain of the circumstances and wanted to notify them as soon as you found the mistake. Try not to be paranoid, but the door ringer has been set off by almost everyone thanks to inattentive clerks (and some of us have made it home with the tag like you did). It is embarrassing, no doubt, but you are secure in the truth Just take it back and tell them what happened. This happened to my daughter and it was her dress for her second wedding. We discovered it as she was dressing and fortunately the dress had a matching jacket and the tag was on the dress--under the arm. She wore it and showed the tag to everyone at the reception, laughed about it and took the dress back the next time she was in town and had it removed. Your credit card receipt would have a store and transaction number that they could trace back if they so desired. try and dress like happy, and preppy. wear something from hollister, and make it bright. then try and go and get it removed. if applicable, bring the receipt. make sure to dress appropriate enough, so you dont actually look like someone that would steal it. You can get it off, get a grinder Did you charge it? If so get a copy of the statement and take it back to the store. |
