Weapons to protect yourself?

If someone brakes into your home what weapons do you have to protect yourself or have you got any security alarm? Whats a good thing to protect your home? what have you got?

i don't really want a gun something like a bat any good

I have several heavy objects laying around the room that I could pick up, but what I would probably favor is a sheet metal hammer I have near my bed. (something like this http://www.freepatentsonline.com/D051166... )
We do have firearms in the houst, but they are locked up so they would be of no use in a break in.

If you are looking for a good weapon, a semi-auto or pump shotgun would be best.

If you are looking for a weapon to protect you against a genreal home intruder, S&W makes light weight and easy to conceal .22 revolvers. They run about $300-$500. They are ideal becuase they will disable the person, but they probably will not kill them unless you get in a head shot, or fire multiple rounds...(You do not want to get into a situation where you have to explain a dead guy in your house).

In may countries like the States, they can have firearms to protect themselves. In other countries, possession of firearms is permitted only under licence. Therefore it is better to use all the available safety gadgets etc. Take all precautionary steps to ensure your safety.

I have several firearms. I also have one dog outside, who doesn't like strangers, and one dog inside, that wakes me up whenever the outside dog barks. More reliable and cheaper than any alarm system, and a lot more fun too.

I have several firearms but my favorite home defense option (if it ever comes to that) is my 12-gauge with a 19" barrel. Very wide shot pattern, lethal, and perfectly legal.

In Britain we are not allowed to have a weapon, on the grounds that we might use to to defend ourselves! we might also hurt the burglar or intruder and that could get us into trouble, blame the politicians!

I have a fubar. I think it will also work well for when the zombies come.
