Can a hit-and-run be blamed on the person who was hit? |
I was in my car parked behind the place where I work and a woman pulled into the spot beside me, hitting my backend and denting it pretty badly. She left afterwards. There weren't any security cameras in the parking lot, there were no other witnesses, and I did not have a camera to take photos of the car. I did call the police within a few minutes, and they arrived after a couple of hours. They filed the report and classified it as a hit-and-run. No I don't see how she could blame it on you especially if you were the only one to file a police report. If she never files a report then that means she's clearly not interesting in pursuing anything legal or she perhaps she had no insurance. Proper investigations will see the angle of the accident. If the lady really is at fault hen she can't get away with it. She'll be held responsible for the damage. It is possible she could beat a criminal charge that way, but she is still responsible for your dent. If you were stopped, no. No. |
