Why do people belive that illegals get paid under the table?

What is it the 70's or early 80's. I have been around illegals in the workforce for most of my life and I can tell you that nowadays maybe 1 out of 1000 get paid in cash, if any at all do. Most use falsified documents and get federal and or state taxes deducted. This includes agricultural work. It Is crazy to think that an employer can afford to pay cash in todays economy. Remember employers are required to have social security numbers not verify them, in most states . Do you think it saves money to pay some one cash and then have to pay an accountant to "fix" your books. If you own a company you have to show your expenses for tax purposes and its just not cost effective or easy to try and hide cash payments. On top of that what if something happens to the worker on the job site then workers comp gets dragged into it and the company is screwed. No illegal in his right mind would work for cash they have seen how badly cash payed employees can be abused and shorted money for work done

So--the person that mows lawns and cleans houses do not get paid in CASH--

LAUGHABLE

.---day workers at construction sites DO GET PAID IN CASH!--

Those guys hanging out at the local HARDWARE STORES--HOME DEPOT AND LOWES--are paid by Cash.

Now---not to say that some guy that stole or bought an illegal identitiy is not WORKING FOR CASH--he is probably getting a PAYCHECK--and contributing to somebody else's social Security --he of course is just contributing to an ever growning black MARKET in IDENTITY THEFT!--and he is probably buying stuff from thieves that break into peoples houses or shop lift and sale the stolen goods FOR CASH in his community.--after all why buy a DVD player for 100 bucks from Wal-Mart when you are working for low wages and can buy it from the GUY that comes to your house and says--IT FELL OFF A TRUCK!-

if having low skilled and uneducated people did any good for a country--The countries of CENTRAL AMERICA would be RICH!--

20% of all prisoners in the US PENAL systems are illegal aliens.

illegal aliens flood emergency rooms because they can't pay for healthcare cost--why--because they are low skilled and lack educations that give them higher paying jobs.

They also send their kids to public schools---but again--how do you pay SCHOOL TAXES if your only making minimum wage.

Unemployment in the USA is at 5%--how many people could we move off welfare and be able to employ EVERYBODY if we just got rid of the estimated 12 to 20 million illegals.

ABOUT 12 to 20 million AMERICAN citizens that instead can't find work because an illegal has that JOB!

Billions of dollars are sent out of the USA to Mexico by illegals--that is money sent out of your community to a community in MEXICO. It is MEXICOS third largest source of INCOME behind OIL AND TOURISM!

Why you want to defend illegal activity that undermines your countries laws, causes wage deflation in your community and destroys your countries social structure is just unfathomable.

Why do they believe that? Because people believe everything they read in forwarded emails.

They don't realize that most illegals are paying taxes, which they can't file returns for and get refunds. They're not sucking our system dry...that's being done well enough by American citizens who don't or won't work for whatever reason.

Remember that most illegal immigrants don't work for major companies. They work for small businesses, like owner-operated trucking or cleaning companies, or as domestic labor, etc. Very few illegal immigrants work in big companies that have accountants and payroll departments.

Illegals are not usually employed by one employer, I live in Wine Country and I can tell you where they sit waiting for people to hire them and pick them up.

so I don't think you are right -- I could ask some though, I am curios

I work in the construction industry and have been forced to compete with Mexican framing crews. The way it typically works is that a Mexican contractor comes in with legal authority to do so (he has a SS # and all that). Almost his entire crew is illegal. All payments from the general contractor are made to him and he in turn pays his crew, IN CASH!! They send the money back home, he files taxes and claims the money he has paid them as deductions, however he does not use 1099's as are "technically" required. The payments to his men are then untraceable unless he is audited and asked for proof of who he made the payments to. If that is the case, he has several options: He can go through the audit and "owe" the IRS money if he loses. He can also go back to Mexico and later re-enter under another identity. He can also allow one of his fellow country-men to be the new paymaster and basically "disappear" from IRS records. American contractors who pay taxes and cannot run or hide from the IRS have to compete with this. I know first hand, so every time I hear this line of crap that "illegal aliens" (Mexicans is what people really mean, but don't the balls to say) pay their taxes and contribute to the system that won't be able to draw from, I want to F****** PUKE!!!!! The unfortunate truth is that the average Mexican is smarter than the average American because of the propaganda spoon fed to us everyday through the corporate media who benefits more than anyone from cheap labor. Ever think about why everything is made in China? I don't blame or hate the Mexicans either. Everyone wants to do better for their families. It just p***** me off that Americans are too dumb to know the truth even when it's biting them in the ****!!!

I don't imagine that too many people who hire illegal domestics bother to get employer identification numbers.

Most domestics are paid cash & are not a 'business' expense because they aren't hired by businesses; they are hired by home owners. And I bet as many citizens as illegals who are domestics are paid under the table as well by house holders who want to avoid paying taxes.

As a 32 yr Social Security employee I only took 1 application for benefits filed by a person who worked as a domestic and she was a citizen! Which means that there aren't a whole lot of domestics anywhere in the US whose wages are being properly reported -- it doesn't just apply to illegals.

A lot still do.All the guys at the Home depots and many gardeners.Or they're working with a false s.s.n.. I do a lot of remodeling in wealthy areas and a lot of people there work for cash. You may have a more limited exposure to this phenomenon but it exists on a large scale. If they do pay taxes, they tend to claim many dependents in Mexico-which is true since a lot of their money gets sent back.Whenever they can they work for cash. With small and medium sized companies I agree with your view, although 1 in 1000 is far from the actual figure I'd wager. In the San Francisco Bay Area the tally would probably be more like 2 or 3 out of 10 maybe more of illegals don't pay a penny and I've met them in all walks.I know carpenters making 35- 50 dollars an hour-cash.
