New York State Learners Permit. 18 Years Old, Parents Won't Sign.? |
I'm 18 years old, and my parents don't want me to have my permit for some reason(they're insane?). They will NOT sign for me to get it. I only have 4 points of ID, 6 is required unless a parent or guardian can sign. My grandma has basically raised me since I was a child, and I was curious if she could sign. I have a social security card, birth certificate, 2 highschool photo ID's, a grade sheet with the date and my address, and a library card. Any idea what I should, or can do? You are legally an adult for all purposes except the consumption of alcohol. You do not need your parent's signature. In fact, you can't use their signature.; If you have a SS card, birth certificate and a photo ID, go down and get your license. Good luck. You don't even need to tell your parents since it sounds like it would cause a problem. Maybe they just don't want to pay for your insurance. Be aware that at your age, it is quite high. If you plan to be using a car owned by them, they will have to insure you. If you plan to buy a car, you will have to buy the insurance yourself.
