I need help or my LIFE IS RUINED -- was the TV show cheaters in their legal right to film me?

Ok, LONG freakin story short, I've been cheating on my boyfriend for a few months. He obviously found out. Last night (Friday night) I was at a restaurant with my other boyfriend and out of the blue, all in a matter of seconds all these cameras and people flood the area where we are sitting and my boyfriend starts fighting with my other boyfriend, and a security guy trys to get them off each other. Then my boyfriend is yelling at me for cheating while there鈥檚 a bunch of cameras in my face. At that point I realize I'm on some sort of cheating TV show. The TV show is 鈥淐heaters鈥?

If it goes on TV, it will ruin my career, ruin my relationships with other people and give me a bad reputation. I was given a contact number and I've tried calling the company and they're no help at all. I was told they were in their legal right to film me as it was filmed on public property. I鈥檝e tried to email them again and those IDIOTS won鈥檛 reply.

I don鈥檛 care what your thoughts about my personal life is, keep it to yourself, so if you鈥檙e going to answer and rant about me cheating then don鈥檛. I just want to know if they can legally put me on TV when I don鈥檛 want to be seen on TV? I鈥檓 thinking about getting a lawyer, I just want to know if I have a case?

Go on camera and tell YOUR side of the story. Cheaters will film you telling your side of how your relationship really was. If you don't want people to judge you then set the record straight by going on camera.
Did you really get to meet Joey Greco? He's been the best host.

Infidelity or adultery can have a truly devastating impact on relationships, families and lives. Rather than live in fear of the possibility that your spouse is committing infidelity or remain paralyzed by a betrayal that has taken place, you can educate yourself on infidelity and empower yourself to prevent infidelity from happening, or move on from the experience and heal.

The courts have ruled in Cheaters favor on a criminal charge.

I believe they are allowed to film on public property, but your IMAGE belongs to you.

Which means that if you don't sign something giving them permission to use your face (your image), they must blur it out. So definitely don't sign anything whatsoever without a lawyer present.

But I'm not sure on that. Go ahead and check with a lawyer. They know the law and all its many intricacies; a lawyer would be better suited for making sure you know exactly what your rights are.

They'll just pixelate your face. I hope no one recognizes your voice... or your boyfriend.

I'm not sure what your career is, but never discount the old saying: "Any publicity is good publicity."

Well, if you wanted to spare your career and relationships, you might have thought to NOT cheat on your boyfriend.

And yes, they have every legal right to videotape you on public property.

Doubt it. Big corporations will always have the last word and will most of the time be considered as if they were right. You dug your own hole. My only suggestion is to off yourself. Cheers.
XOXO

well you did it, you deserve it!!! Yes they have the right to film you because they have the permits to do so.

Call a lawyer and find out.

Get a lawyer, we're all fools here.

Speak to an attorney ... I wish I could help you more ... but I honestly don't know who's legally correct.

I can't miss that! When's the next show? I'm gonna record it and post it on youtube! LOL

the program has been running for a number of years.. and the entire premise of the show is that obviously, NONE of the 'targets' WANT to be shown in this situation. I have seen some episodes in which an individual persons' face is blurred. Beyond that, simple logic seems to indicate that the program would not be able to continue, if this was illegal in some way.
It also seems if someone wanted to sue for libel/ slander/ defamation.. the standard (as I understand it) is that none of the above applies unless something is false.
Just my personal opinion. And no, I don't regularly watch the program, just when I am bored and nothing else is on.

I believe that you legally must sign a release for them to use any personal information. However, if your boyfriend releases his information, those who personally know you will likely make assumptions.

They are in their legal right to film you, but not to publically realease that footage.

I would call a lawyer, and DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING until you have proper council. If they proceed you could sue for defamation of character. However, as you are cheating it is unlikely this would fly. Threaten to FCC/BBB their ***.

"I was told they were in their legal right to film me as it was filmed on public property."

They are completely correct.

Since the use, though, is commercial, they have to either get you to sign a model release, or pay you for the use of your likeness if they run the show and have your face on TV. If you flat out refuse then they 'can' go ahead and use it anyway and allow a judge to determine a fair fee, but more likely they'll just 'fuzzy' out your face.

Since they can still use your name, and since anyone who recognizes your boyfriend will know who you are anyway, that doesn't help much.

A. You cheated on your boyfriend now pay the crime.
B. A restaurant is a public place for people to go eat NOT a private one. Otherwise you would not be there eating.
C. You have no case.
D. I guess your career is ruined.
E. You do not issue a permit to film you the state does sorry too bad so sad.
F. If you work a deal with the producer of the show and cheat on him with your other boyfriend then just maybye the'll take it off, when pigs fly.

I hate to say it but.

Deal with it.

You cheated on him, he called you on it and took these guys to the restaurant.

Really i detest cheating, i gotta say you really shoulda thought of that before you cheated on your boyfriend.

And no i dont "know your life" but i know enough about life in general to know that cheating can't be justified.

A restaurant is not public property, but the property of the owner.
You need the restaurant owner at your side, whatever you wanna do.
I think you can not do nothing if the tables were outside on the
public area.
Everybody has a right to film at public areas whatever happening there, within a restaurant also if the owner does not forbid it separately, or does not declare it an invasion of privacy legitimacy rights of his/her property later.

You should really stop cheating on your boyfriends. I think that future boyfriends deserve to know the truth of how you will treat them.

Andy V is clueless and stop saying the restaurant is private property it is not. It is a building owned by someone, yes. It is also a place of business where they serve customers food. That makes it a public place. A private property would constitute of your home or apartment.

Do you really think you can take off all your clothes and walk around the restaurant naked and the police won't show up and arrest you? Of course they will because you are exposing yourself in a public area.

Ok, you asked for it. Thats fine. the sensible thing to do now is not to kick up a scene as you've already done. You would end up losing to the tv bigwigs. But your boy friend being with them makes it smell of something rotten. Are you sure these tv guys are not a bunch of friends of your bf or a set of hired guys to scare you.
Whatever it is, your privacy has been invaded. Those are the grounds on which you could fight on. Check with your lawyer.
