Is my 86 year old mother entitled to a stimulus check even though I claimed her as a dependent on my return?

I have always claimed her as a dependent in past years when I actually made any money. The past 2 years I have been below the National Poverty level, but still claimed her, as always as a dependent. Had I not claimed her for 2007, she would have been entitled to the stimulus refund from what I've heard? I definitely did not need her as a dependent claim because I only made about $7,500 last year. It just doesn't seem fair. Had the government informed us better, I never would have used her as a dependent last year. By the way, she has not been required to file a return in many years due to her Social Security only income. She lives with me which is why I was entitled to claim her as a dependent. Again, that claim didn't do a thing for me last year. I filed her return anyway like I was told to do. IS THERE AN IRS OR GOVERNMENT SITE WHERE WE CAN ACTUALLY ASK A QUESTION OR LODGE A COMPLAINT REGARDING THE STIMULUS CHECKS?? THANKS!!

Q: I know some people won鈥檛 get a stimulus payment. How do I know if I鈥檓 one of them?

A: You won鈥檛 get a stimulus payment in 2008, if any of the following apply to you:

You don鈥檛 file a 2007 tax return.
Your net income tax liability is zero and your qualifying income is less than $3,000. To determine your qualifying income, add together your wages, net self-employment income, nontaxable combat pay, Social Security benefits, certain Railroad Retirement benefits and certain veterans鈥?payments.
You can be claimed as a dependent on someone else鈥檚 return (whether or not you actually are claimed as a dependent on someone else's return). For example, this would include a child or student who can be claimed on a parent鈥檚 return. [Updated 4/15/08]
You do not have a valid Social Security Number.
You are a nonresident alien.
You file Form 1040NR or Form 1040NR-EZ, Form 1040PR or Form 1040SS for 2007.

If your mom only has social security as her income, I don't believe that she would get a stimulus check regardless of whether or not youor claimed her as a dependent. Call the irs, wait on hold like everyone else and ask them!

yes she gets social security..i known a few on ss,and they did not even file anything...it came in the mail already too.they did not think they was getting anything..

did your mom personally make any money?
If not then she wouldnt get one whether you claimed her or not.

Information has been on the IRS.gov website for moths. I used it to find out what we were receiving.

The stimulas refund is based on the annual income on the return. The peron filing the return will get a refund plus their dependents will get a refund. Ususally its 300.00 per dependent. You think "its not fair" well, I don't think its FAIR for you to claim her as a dependent but not include her income for tax purposes. Also, you are wrong about her not having to file a return because of Socical Security. If a person gets/makes over a certain amount they are still required to file a return. How can you claim her as a dependant since you don't contribute to over half her support?

You should be able to go the IRS website (irs.gov), enter a little info and get an answer as to what you can expect. Without knowing for sure, I would expect you would receive $900 for the both of you. I believe dependents are worth $300 in this program. So you really only shorted yourself $300 by not filing separately. I understand that might be a lot of money to you but you should be happy to be getting anything.

If it was done my way you would receive nothing at all. People that do not pay taxes, by definition, cannot receive a refund. What our government has done is called redistribution of wealth, and it is purely a socialist program. Our nation will collapse just like the Soviet union did if we continue down this path.
