Is a social security check every month counted as supporting oneself?

If a minor is seeking emancipation can they use the social security check they get every month as financially supporting themselves?

My friend wants to be emancipated. She gets a social security check every month of $914. Would the court consider this supporting herself?

No, because you are only eligible to receive dependent social security until you are an adult. Being emancipated makes you an adult so you would no longer have that "income".

Well the real answer to this question is yes .. i was srecently emancipated from my grandmother's care and i was receiving social security from my father .. so i used it and it worked .. and once she is emancipated she will still receive these benefits

Yes, it is considered supporting yourself. Although, it is a fixed income, this means you will probably need other funds to actual be able to afford essentials of life.

Technically, that isn't supporting yourself. that is the government supporting you. But this country is so screwed up, it will probably count.

Most likely, no. Unless the checks are for a permanent disability of the minor, odds are the checks would stop once the minor has been declared emancipated.

? good luck
