Security deposit deduction for cleaning? |
I just moved out of a place I lived for 2.5 years in San Diego, California. When I moved in the manager told me that the normal tear and wear will not be deducted and If I take normal care they would just charge around $85 dollars for cleaning. The manager changed and now that I moved out they charge $240 which about 3 times more, they claimed that it was $120 cleaning the place and $120 for cleaning the carpet. I argued that the carpet is normal tear and wear, and they say that they always charge it, in fact, they told me that if I clean the house they will still charging the cleaning because they will still bring someone to clean it. I think that they are taking advantage and that I should be able to recover at least the $120 dollars for carpet cleaning, isn't right? It is not that much money, but why should they keep it anyway, especially consider I never give any trouble at all! Thanks. A security deposit is not a cleaning deposit, however you did agree to the $85.00 so it can be charged, the other charges can be recovered if you want to spend the time to go into small claims court, you will be required to pay a filing fee but if you prevail they will have to pay you the amount of your claim as well as the fee.~ |
