Social Security says I owe an overpayment from 20 years ago.? |
I received ss benifits 20 yrs ago when my dad was on it. well he is deceased and when my mom got on ss 5 months ago, ss tried to say she had to pay $819 overpayment. Well she got it waived and now they are after me. I was 10 yrs old at the time. My question is, since i was underage and did not cash the checks myself, am I responsible for this money? I do not think you are responsible for the money. The letter they sent you should have a number to call if you are concerned about their decision (to raise and debt against you). Tell them about the situation and ask them what is the process to seek a review of their decision. |
