Minor Responsible for Social Security overpayment?

On Friday I receieved a letter stating my husbands and I's stimulus check went to an outstand balance "I" owe to Social Secuirty. I called and found out it was when I was a minor my father was recieving benefits on my behalf without my knowledge and had recieved an overpayment of $11,000.00. I called my father and he acknowledged it and said he was making payments but my question is if I was a minor can they really hold ME responisble for something I had NO control over? I did contact an attorney and am awaiting his phone call. I just dont know what the steps are for me to get this off my record and onto his!! How can I as a minor be held responsible for something my father did without my permission or knowledge!!

Help! I dont know what to do or where to turn. I didnt even know about anything until Friday when I got the paper in the mail. Is there anything I can do?!

wow. Wait until the lawyer calls you back. I honestly don't know, it could go either way. But, hopefully your lawyer will know

you were the intended benefituary of the overpayments whether your dad spent them on you or booze.

We taxpayers want our money back.
