Towed from my apartment complex?

Late last evening I arrived home to find that someone had parked in my assigned parking spot, so I parked in an uncovered (general parking) spot.
I awoke to find that my car was gone. I found out that security had it towed and that it would cost me 250.00 to get it back. At this point I asked security to tow the car in my spot, they came out and said that they could not tow this car because it had an AVALON placard in the window. They issued this car a Security citation and I am out 180.00 the actual amount it cost after waiting from 4:30 till 8:20 to get my car out of impound. I want to make someone PAY! Lawyers or legal minded people please assist. I lost a day of work and had to pay someone to take me to the tow lot.
Is this crazy or what?

when you found somebody in your spot you should have called security. Unfortunately, the fact that somebody broke the law and took your spot does not give you the right to do so. Again you should have called security and maybe you could have gotten a temporary permit to park in the general area. I am sorry to tell you I don't think you have much recourse.

Well, I live in Louisiana and several years ago, this happened to my brother's girlfriend too. Someone was parked in her spot so she parked somewhere else to carry in her groceries, and her car was towed and she was a Single Mom and had to pay one hundred eighty dollars! (cash). She never got her money back and complained and had her lease terminated and had to move. Apartments can be really hateful. Try t buy your own place! Bye.

I can't imagine being towed from a general parking area without a warning, In my state there must be a notice given, which is usually a sticker placed on the window. I would fight it and write a letter to the apartments for reimbursement and if not go to small claims court.
Usually the notice has a time frame to tell you to move the car or it will be towed.

I feel your pain. Is it common practice for security to tow a car from an uncovered spot? I guess the question here is are you in a "2 wrongs don't make a right" situation; or do you have a legitimate beef with the Association for towing a car improperly.
