Whats the law in Michigan for unarmed robbery and conspiracy?

My boyfriend was recently arrested for unarmed robbery and conspiracy. He was going to steal some food from the local store. He saw the security guy coming and put said items back. The other person my b/f was with also had stolen property. The security guy told my b/f that he needed to come with him. My b/f said no I put the items back. He then headed to the front of he store where his friend was. My b/f started to leave the store when his friend was grabbed by the security. There ensuded a struggle. The security tried to stop both my b/f and his friend. My b/f helped his friend wrestle away from the security. His friend got away he did not. He is now in jail facing charges of unarmed robbery and conspiracy. Even tho he did not pass the last point of purchase,before putting the items back. I don't understand this? He has a court appointed attorney who is telling him he's going to prison. The only thing on his record is a pending retail fraud case.(misdameaner) How can this be?

Sorry, your boyfriend is AT FAULT, period!!!! Hopefully he will be a "responsible" person, take it as it comes from the judge, pay his time or dues, and LEARN never, ever to do as such again.
