When I was walking home from work through my local town centre at @3:00 am,I was picked up on security camera?

I got stopped& searched,nothing to hide,everything OK,etc,but.......are we allowed to know where the place with all the screens is?Would the local council know?Just wondered.

Under the freedom of information act, yes.

You may even be able to a copy of the footage, although that is obligitory if used as evidence in court.

Did the police tell you why you where stopped?
They should have said something like I am searching you under Terrorism Act or Public Order Act section blah

and they should have given you a form; show why you were stopped, the officers details and your data.

The first answer is correct. The freedom of info act will cover your request, however you are also protected by the data protection act which in a nutshell provides that you are allowed to have access to any personal information about you held on a file and that includes your image. Your local council or town centre manager should be approached in writing.

Under the police and criminal evidence act the police have the power to stop and search when information is passed to them or they have just cause or suspicion.

Did the Police give you the reason they were suspicious of you?
It's still a free country so they have to provide a reasonable excuse for stopping you from doing your own thing.
Were you acting in a suspicious manner?

You can complain to the Chief Constable.

I don't like the idea of police searching people in public unless they have good reason to.

You could probably just see the cameras when you walk around the same area during the day.

Honesty is the best policy, but insanity is a better defense.
