What can I do about my friend being mugged?

Me and my friend were walking back from our cars in a parking lot about a 1/4 mile away from the apartment where my friend's party was. Once we reached the entrance of the gate to the apartment, a truck pulls up and three guys jump out and tell us to stop and accused us of stealing one of the party goer's ipod and hat. My friend and I said we had no idea what they were talking about (we really didn't) and one guy just came out of nowhere and punched my friend in the head. We told the stolen ipod guy's dad we didn't do it and then the nephew hit my friend again while the dad and the stolen ipod guy rushed me. After the second hit my friend took, they just said get out of here and rolled off.

This all happened in the presence of a security guard who was in a car right behind us, so he saw everything. Is there anything me and my friend can do in order to press charges? Is it even worth it? I know who the people are and what car they drove and I am a witness as well as the security guard.

to clarify, 2 of the 3 guys rushed me and grabbed me by the shirt and ripped it and then hit me too. but my friend got the blunt of it, so i figured we could like, team up and do something about it.

What can we do about that security guard?

If anyone ever punched me in the head and there were witnesses, you'd better believe I'd press charges. I'm not sure why you say that both of you would do it, though. Your friend would be the one to make that decision.

Have them arrested. It's illegal to hit somebody. The crime is called battery.

hell yeah press charges for assualt and the security company for there officer not responding or helping
